In 2009 I, with a group of artists, decided to exhibit together and used a poem by Edward Lear 'The Owl & the Pussycat' as the common thread and inspiration - I worked with the line '... there in a wood a piggywig stood ...' I used photos and studies of wood, trees and a dead pigs head to create the final images.
This was an exhibition piece called 'Life in Pieces' and was made not long after my mother had died. I was attending a life drawing class at the time but I was unable to draw the whole person. Instead I felt more comfortable drawing pieces of the body - tentative, abstract drawings, lots of them. I decided to present them in this way because it reminded me of a broken picture having fallen to the ground and now lying in pieces. June 2007.
